One more reason to move to Canada

In case you’re wondering, the maker of this film is serious. This kind of trash warrants a thorough response from the church, but I’m not about to waste my time with it. The video speaks for itself, in my opinion.

This song definitely ended my country music phase.

Yes, that's America, and it is a reason to move to Canada.

Sadly, there are also reasons for not moving to Canada...

One of my new favorite sites is Stuff White People Like. #75 is Threatening to Move to Canada ;the site elaborates on this phenomena:

"Though they will never actually move to Canada, the act of declaring that they are willing to undertake the journey is very symbolic in white culture. It shows that their dedication to their lifestyle and beliefs are so strong, that they would consider packing up their entire lives and moving to a country that is only slightly different to the one they live in now."

I mean this in good humor hopefully you like to chuckle at yourself. Other stuff white people like that you identify yourself with are #41 Indie Music, #23 Microbreweries, and #3 Film Festivals.
Thanks, Mike. I really enjoy that website. Of course, just because it's "stuff that white people like" doesn't mean it's stuff not worth liking.
Mike,

I should add that I disagree with the statement that Canada is "only slightly different to the one they live in now." Even if there are only a few differences, they are significant ones indeed. For example:

1. No cultural stigma against socialism or socialized government.

2. Strict gun laws which make them all but impossible to own, resulting in much, much less violent crime.

3. Free medical care.

4. Bilingual society, which effectively means that people are comfortable seeing other languages besides English and don't think English should have some kind of hegemonic power over the world.

5. Metric system.

6. No red-vs-blue states.

7. No Texas. :-)

Well, there may be no Texas, but Canada does have Alberta!

Sure something being liked by white folks shouldn't be a strike against it. The funny thing about the site is that most of the topics are liked because they are supposed to somehow enhance Mr. White's uniqueness and authenticity; its funny to point out how common these unique interests are among young white folks. Since I also enjoy several of them its good to laugh at myself.

As for the first 3 Canadian differences I line up a bit closer to the U.S. on those. As for them being bilingual that's all well and good but as an Anglican I'm required to unabashedly love the English language. As a geographer I've dealt with miles, feet, and inches for quite awhile and find them to be just fine. I'm fine with Red and Blue and the Latino wing of my family resides in Texas so no beef with them either.

I'm just not cut out to be a Canadian :)
